MauiSails 2011
Re: MauiSails 2011

Artur Szpunar / Co-sail designer :
"Generally the luff lengths for TR-7 are approximately 15cm shorter than TR-6 and boom lengths are 15-20cm shorter. Some of the sizes will rig on the next smaller mast. We wanted to gain the performance benefits of a lower aspect (shorter luff, longer boom) outline, but to decrease, rather than increase, the actual wishbone length, so having the clew recess was the logical solution. We have taken our own aproach to executing this which will preserve outline integrity without using any complicated, failure prone closure systems.
The bigger news on the new sails is their great speed and range together with nice light handling."
"The luff sleeve width has been increased in the bottom to accomodate the additional shape down low. The increased width down low allows us to put more pressure on the lower cams for a more stable profile while keeping smooth rotation and a nice clean sleeve fit."
Barry Spanier / Sail designer :
"The sails are just getting better low end, with better high end. i think the low aspect ratio and continued shape evolution are more responsible for this. the cut away to keep the boom short is just that and nothing more. from what i know based on discussions with some very high level aero people, most of the marketing claims are total drivel. one company has flow drawings that are a laugh. windsurfing sails are operating in an aero world that is their own. principals of theory may apply broadly, but empirical development and reality proofing are the only thing that is real. so no claims about anything like you suggest, just the attempt to get the best result possible... better low end and higher speed with control. whatever it takes to get that is what it is."
