Re: MauiSails 2011
MauiSails Race Sail Development :
- Clew will be a drop executed in a very unique way that preserves the leech tension and skin tension in the body of the sail required to keep the center of effort from moving around. Boom lengths are shorter by 5% - 7%!
- The luff lengths are generally about 15cm shorter and while the boom cutout depth ranges from 25-30cm the actual boom lengths relative to TR-6 end up being about 15-20 cm shorter due to the lower aspect ratio outline. The new outline and shaping changes give the sails better range on both ends, higher top speed, better stability along with lighter handling.
- A lot of sizes now will rig on the next size mast down. For example you will be able to use the 230 boom on the 12m sail now, same goes for the 9.2, this will fit on the 190 slalom boom.
- Aspect Ratio is going to be lower with the advantage of the drop clew designed into the perimeter outline of the sail. The advantage of lowering the aspect ratio is bringing the balance point of the rig closer to the sailor’s hands, stronger low end pull, plus quicker initial acceleration out of a turn, the start line, lulls, etc. The lower aspect ratio also reduces swing weight and contributes to a light in the hands feel.
- Lighter sails with new carbon batten parts, light but stronger x-ply batten pockets and creative use of lightweight materials in key reinforcements especially the new drop clew area.
